We are a family business and we very much enjoy being a local grower and satisfying our customers’ garden needs. We very much hope for your support and custom at the weekends this autumn. If you wish to contact us during the times we are closed, please contact us by email. We are a very busy retail plant nursery and have a temporary vacancy for the 2018 spring season.
We are a small team, the work is hard and physically demanding, but rewarding and fun. We are looking for someone that enjoys working hard, working outdoors, dealing with plants and customers. We need someone who will work on their own initiative, apply common sense solutions to problems and take responsibility for getting the work done. Whilst experience in horticulture is an advantage, it isn't necessary. Working at a nursery isn't like gardening, it is a commercial activity with productivity and time constraints and we are looking for someone that is versatile, hard working and commercially minded.
Due to the size of the nursery duties are quite varied. Whilst duties will mostly be of a horticultural nature, serving customers, dealing with plants, shrubs and trees, the work will also consist of preparing/cleaning poly tunnels and greenhouses ready for new crops or after crops have finished, ensuring that pots/baskets/containers are ready for planting, merchandising products associated with gardening / horticulture ready for retail sale and carrying out duties as required to ensure that the nursery is presented to a high standard without exception.
The work will take place either outside or in greenhouses and poly tunnels. The work will involve lifting, bending, walking, working inside and outside in hot and cold conditions.
More specifically the duties will include:
Serving and assisting customers
Potting up plants/plug plants
Making up hanging baskets and planted containers
Keeping all areas tidy
Restocking retail areas
Working outside, in greenhouses or in poly tunnels
Lifting and bending
5 March 2018 to 30 June 2018. The hours are 09:00 to 16:00 with a 30 minute lunch break. 19.5 - 26 Hours per week. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Tuesdays as necessary when required.
Working hours/days maybe flexible by negotiation so long as the business needs are covered.
Wages will be in line with the National Living/Minimum Wage according to age. Negotiable for candidates with relevant experience.
If you are interested in working with us next year, please supply your CV together with a covering email / letter telling us about yourself, what experience you have together with 2 referees. References won’t be requested without your knowledge and consent.
Emails should be addressed to Susan@devoncroftnursery.co.uk or by post to Devon Croft Nursery, 81 Farndon Road, Newark, NG24 4SQ. If you have any questions or would like to clarify anything, please email or telephone 01636 704013 during our published opening hours as published on our website.
